Three registrations before lunch: VAT registration — practice walkthrough

The real application shape, and how the practice wizard mirrors it

Wednesday. Three VAT registrations need to go in: Meera Nair as a natural person, Al Dahi Electronics, and Sharjah Home Services. "One UAE Pass, three taxable persons," Arjun says. "Use the Taxable person selector so you never file for the wrong one."

Fatima adds: "Smart Auto-fill can complete each nine-step form from the client file. Use it, but read every note. When the FTA asks why you ticked a box, 'the computer did it' is not an answer."

What the real registration form asks for

The application, section by section

The real EmaraTax VAT registration form is organized into sections roughly matching: details about the applicant (entity type, legal name), business activity and expected turnover, contact and banking details, and an authorized signatory — the named contact the FTA will correspond with. This practice course's registration wizard walks the same shape.

A "Getting Started" guide is shown before the form itself, and you must confirm you've read it before proceeding — this is a real FTA UX pattern (also used before VAT201 filing), not just a formality unique to this course.

What happens after you submit

On the real portal, submitted applications move through a status lifecycle: Drafted (not yet submitted) → Pending (received, under review, or the FTA is awaiting more information from you) → Approved (registration successful, TRN issued) — with Rejected and Suspended as other possible outcomes. This simulator compresses that into an instant "Approved" outcome so you can move on to practicing the next step, since waiting days for a real review isn't useful for training.

The documents typically required alongside the form include a valid trade license, Emirates ID and passport copies for the owner(s)/manager, proof of authorization for the signatory, and supporting evidence of the turnover figures declared (e.g. audited financials, revenue forecasts, or contracts).

The TRN itself

A Tax Registration Number is a 15-digit number issued once a registration is approved. The same taxable person is issued a separate TRN for each tax it registers for — a business with VAT, Excise, and Corporate Tax registrations holds three distinct TRNs, not one shared number, which is exactly why this simulator treats VAT/Excise/Corporate Tax as three separate registration wizards rather than one.
