Part 3 · The Excise desk · Chapter 8
The 15th of the month: Excise Tax return filing
Production, release from a Designated Zone, and the due date
Four Excise returns are due on the same day. Gulf Vapor released e-liquids from its Designated Zone, Union Beverages produced colas, Desert Leaf released cigarettes and shisha, and Oasis Juice bottled mango drinks.
"Excise is monthly and tight," Arjun warns. "Due 15 days after the month ends. No sleeping on these."
Your mission
- File Excise returns for production and for release from a Designated Zone.
- Use litres for sweetened drinks and value for the 100% categories.
- Decide what stays off the return, such as drinks with only natural sugar.
Rules settled in this chapter
- The orange juice question: Only excise goods go on the return. Production outside a Designated Zone is taxed when produced. Goods inside a zone are taxed on release.
- Why keep stock in the zone?: A Designated Zone delays Excise until goods are released for consumption, which matters a lot at a 100% rate.
The return structure
- Two trigger events, one return
- Filing frequency and due date
- Import declarations, separately
