UAE Pass: The Digital Identity Every FTA Service Requires
What UAE Pass is, how account creation actually works, and why it's separate from the FTA's own site.
UAE Pass is the UAE's national digital identity — a single login accepted across a wide range of federal and local government services, not just the Federal Tax Authority. Rather than each government portal keeping its own username/password, they redirect to UAE Pass and trust the identity it confirms. The FTA states directly that its services are only available through UAE Pass.
Basic vs. Verified accounts
Accounts come in two tiers: a Basic Account, created via web or the mobile app using ID details you provide, and a Verified Account, upgraded through facial biometric verification or an in-person kiosk visit. A Basic Account is sufficient for most everyday services, including EmaraTax.
How account creation works
The real sign-up flow runs: choose Citizen/Resident or Visitor → enter personal details (name, mobile, email — typed manually or pulled from a scanned ID) → verify by email one-time code (OTP) → set a 4-digit PIN. Every screen in this flow carries UAE Pass's own green, fingerprint-mark branding — never the badge of whichever government service redirected you there.
Why it's a separate product from the FTA's site
On the real EmaraTax login page, a single "Sign in with UAE PASS" button and a "Create New Account" link hand off to UAE Pass's own site or app — the FTA page itself never asks for an Emirates ID or password. This two-step hand-off (FTA's redirect panel, then UAE Pass's own branded screens) is a deliberate architectural separation, not a cosmetic choice.
